Michelle Mao
Nico is an associate at Black Burke Mayor, maintaining a broad practice in labour, employment and human rights law. They are proud to represent worker interests with thoughtful, client-focussed advocacy.

Nico obtained their law degree from the University of Victoria, where they received multiple awards for academic achievement and represented individuals at UVic’s legal clinicLaw Centre. At the 2022 Willms & Shier Environmental Law moot, they were named a distinguished oralist and won the D. Paul Emond award for best respondent’s factum. Prior to joining Black Burke Mayor, Nico practiced insolvency and commercial litigation at a leading national firm.

Nico is also a committed pro bono advocate, with a focus on representing the LGBTQ+ community. Outside of work, they enjoy reading, running and being outdoors.
